SOFIA OLLER IB Visual Arts 2016 Lincoln School Costa Rica

The Artist Statement
by Sofia Oller

I created all of my artworks, which connect due to style, in order to achieve and create humor by the way the people physically look and also their facial expressions.  What I intend to convey from my artworks is that everybody is different and have different opinions, likes, physical looks but at the end of all everybody is human and they all connect in some way, that’s why they all have different hair color, eye colors, and also different activities but still you can see how they all look alike in some kind of way.

Some materials have been explored in the artworks, such as digital since two of them are created digitally, also ceramics that was used in one of the totems. Ideas, Issues and motifs also are being used since all of the artworks kind of repeat since they look all alike and the same style has been used throughout the whole exposition.

Seeing everyone and studying people and what their interests are in different subjects, and also what’s kind of “in” in today’s society or what’s popular today, are experiences that have influenced all of my artworks. How I exhibited my artworks contribute to what I’m trying to convey or let the audience know since they all connect and also some of them come together as one, and they all are a mix of each one

GMO Diet 2.0 by Sofia Oller
Acrylics on Wood panel

I created this artwork also based on my critic towards the GMO projects, and the excessive sugar consumption around the world. I decided to paint this on a wood panel due to the fact I wanted to work with a natural material and not an artificial one since it is contradictory to the GMO projects

GMO Diet  by Sofia Oller
Digital Art

I created this digital art to complain against GMO projects. Most of the people in the US, and basically all countries around the world have no clue what they are eating, where it comes from, or what are they made of and do not know what the consequences are of not knowing. I made it especially based on the US citizens since the government approved the GMO’s without the proper research and are putting the citizens life on risk. I chose both the milkshake and the hamburger since they both come from the cow and cows are the ones who are being manipulated and mistreated the most.

Light Box by Sofia Oller
Wood panel and motor tool

For this artwork I wanted to continue with a series of totems but wanted to do it in a totally different way and a way I hadn't use before. I decided to illuminate the face and its shape as a symbol that everyone has a light inside of them that makes them special.

Hubba Bubba by Sofia Oller
Digital Art

This artwork I created is based on the excessive of sugar consumptions, and the GMO projects. It is connected to the two artworks based on this topics and also connected to the totem projects. I wanted to do this as my final and connect them with the to ideas I have been working throughout the whole year.

Los Gueisos by Sofia Oller

For this totem I got inspired by people, the idea I want to convey is how different everybody is physically and their different color, facial expressions are, but at the end of all we are all connected, that’s why I wanted to do a totem since they all connect to create the final art piece
