MARIANNE PRADA Lincolon School Costa Rica. IB Visual Arts 2015

The artists Statement
by Marianne Prada

I have always known that art is a part of my life, a way I can express myself; because of this I decided to take IB art. Beginning with simple sketches, I developed and became looser every day. I usually connect my artworks with events I encounter, feelings I have at the moment during certain situations that create an impact on my life. My artworks are not as free as they are detailed. This is because I tend to be really emotional. Whenever I have a problem, I create something out of it. It helps me develop my ideas, grow and especially express myself. I either leave it in the hands of judgment or criticize it. After certain artworks and lots of research, it was with the discovery Rudolf Joseph Lorenz Steiner that I was inspired. He developed a spiritual movement called Anthroposophy, which connects with the ideas of inner experiences and internal development. I began trying different techniques and realized that I enjoy drawing. I also realize I like to work with my hands more than I do with brushes. This is why I tried working with DAS Clay. Sculpture for me is extremely different and when I feel the clay in my hands I feel free. I also tried doodling. I enjoy this because I don’t have to think to express what I feel… it just comes out. I believe that the most intense and stressful stage I have gone through is to free myself, to be different and to take risks. Not to focus more on details but to allow my feelings to fly through different medias. IB has helped me to achieve this.
