MICHELLE HUTT IB Visual Arts Lincoln School Costa Rica 2015

The artist Statement
by Michelle Hutt

The human body is constantly being manipulated in order to adapt to distinct ideas that deteriorate one’s true soul. It is effortless and unchallenging to say that the solution for this denigration is to ignore what people say and just be yourself. The real way to solve this is to connect the emotional and physical body to your soul. The soul is the human essence which acts separately from the human on Earth. It is the individual that achieves the fundamental niche being interfered by an irrational society. All my works connect humans’ deeper body parts to different ideas that alienate a person’s true self. When the body and the mind act as the soul would, the worries disappear. They are following their personal ideal and fundamental niche. Body proportions have always been incorporated in my designs. I have tried to understand the body’s anatomy and the human skeleton to manipulate their figure for design purposes. Over the past years I have experimented with different media by which to express myself through art. I have used watercolors, oils, acrylic paints, printmaking tools and linoleums, photography and manipulation programs, India ink, DAS clay, ceramic, and the list continues. I have been guided by surrealism incorporated in the modern world. All my works show an irrational perspective of images linked together in order to express different feelings or ideas. Maskull Laserre is an artist that carves skeletons on different souvenirs. It is amazing how he manages to fit the adequate proportions in different shapes. “The Body in Society” by Alexandra Houson is a book that relates to me and therefore, my works. It talks about how people take the body for granted; the significance of the human body. The body has to be in harmony with the soul in order to live in peace with itself. One’s dignity is connected to the body, and the body is connected to the mind…
