Artist Statement
Marianne Trejos
I express my emotions and feelings
through art, so I decided to enroll myself in the IB Art course. Choosing IB Art was the perfect opportunity to
get out of my comfort zone and to loosen myself through art. By exploring techniques,
mediums, and artists, I finally found the purpose of my artwork. An artist that influenced me was
Hundertwasser, his use of spirals, lines and figures served as a model for my
future artworks. A movement that influenced me was the feminine movement in artists. My style if very intimate and feminine, I
play with lines, spirals, and colors to convey feelings and struggles regarding
feminism. The purpose of my artwork is to express society problems dealing with
femininity through the use of lines, textures, and utilizing an abstract style.
Some of the problems I faced during my artworks is conveying the message I
wanted the audience to understand. I started implementing the use of colors and
symbols to convey the meaning in a more efficient way. At the beginning I was
very shy in my artwork, I only used acrylics and didn’t really play with media,
colors and textures. Then I started
experimenting with other medias and techniques such as transfers, gel mediums,
oils, texture utensils, aggressive brush strokes and threads. Researching these
techniques allowed me to loosen up regarding my artwork and finally I was able
to find my identity in terms of art. The effect is now my artworks have a
certain style that makes them distinct from the rest. Overall the idea of femininity
and the perception of women in society are the messages conveyed through my
artworks.
