The Artist statement
Alessandra Musmanni

With a life so full of pain and a world so full opportunities, I found my self in art. I choose to IB Visual Arts course because I could have a class where I would be free to play with joyful opportunities and experiment with different media and techniques.
I knew I wanted to demonstrate emotions through body language and because I had to study the human body great masters of art inspired me to do my creations. Artists like Leonardo da Vinci, El Greco, Michelangelo, and August Rodin made me see what I could do and made me want to strive to demonstrate emotion through the human body. Through this course I had the chance to notice that my strength is working on 3D: ceramics and paper machie sculptures. Because it was so much easier for me to be able to create the emotion I want the audience to experience. At the same time I discovered that my biggest weakness was to create volumes and values with graphite and paintings on paper or a two-dimensional painting.
I also discovered that I have a very big problem with values and light when I was taking pictures and using photographs.  During this course I experimented with graphite, oil paints, acrylic paint, makers, water colors, Indian ink, paper machie and ceramics and was able to adapt to different media and to master most of them. But the most rewarding achievement for me was exactly that, to be able to be free with all the medias and experiment with everything I could to be able to find myself in my craft and art.
