I have always have loved sports and muscles. Sports and exercise for me is an escape from stress and unwanted anger. I chose IB art because I new I wanted to learn human anatomy to include sports in my projects. My main purpose in my work is to illustrate and show the power, and energy created from sports and exercise. One of my main concerns is how sports and exercise are used wrong and not practiced with the same intense as before. There no longer is that energy in them that I portray in my art. I discovered my strength working in 3D while molding with clay. I later on used paper mâché and cast plaster. I faced difficulties in drawling and painting. However I was able to overcome this by using different materials to create rich texture and surface qualities. Some of the artists who have inspired and influence me the most are Dan Reeder, who make amazing 3D monsters normally dragons and Burn Hogarth who has amazing books on the anatomy of the human body and hands. Some medias I have practiced are: graphite, pen, watercolor, collagraph, lino prints, acrylics, oil paint, transparent, photography, cast and transfers. Out of all of these the ones I have been able to master the most are; paper mâché, clay, cast, and transfers are my favorite due to me being able to touch and mold my art with my own two hands.  Overall I enjoyed the IB art course as it made me open my eyes and see society from a deeper perspective, and has helped me improve my techniques in different mediums.

I have been fascinated by art and design since I was a child. I have always been a creative person and know I will keep creativity very close to me for the rest of my life. IB Art was a course that helped me see this creative component of life in a whole new way, in a different perspective. This course helped me think outside the box and got me out of my comfort zone. Some of the most valuable experiences for me were the various critique sessions we had in class, in which everyone had a say and an opinion. This coming and going of ideas was very valuable and when applied, the improvements in my work were very noticeable. I learned to do things I had never done before, I used different techniques and methods I had never considered using: finger painting, using plants and bottle caps in painting, digital photography, printmaking, transfers and different mixed medias were some of the methods that I would not have considered doing before the past two years, but now I see art in a whole new light. This course develops sensitivity towards art and design that glues to a person’s life once it is seen. Although there were hard times and periods of no inspiration, the knowledge and experience gained in this course is priceless. During the course of the last two years, an artist that influenced me greatly was Richard Estes. I was particularly interested in his work because of the fact that he sets the majority of his works in the city, which is a setting I am very interested in. I took the advantage of being able to express myself in an empty canvas and criticized society sometimes in subtle ways, and other times in a bolder manner. The liberty in this course is the most important component since it made me think independently, not based on instructions, just on my own ideas, my own experiences, my own life.

All I see when I wake up are the amorphous shapes that surround me. Somehow they seem to be moving, they have different shapes, smells, textures and volumes although I can only capture some of them. Then I put on my glasses and proceed with my routine. But I’m still blind. Although these shapes acquire a names there are still not a part of my reality. It happens the same thing with people that surround me. They seem to be speaking to me, laughing, crying, and expressing other emotions but I can’t help to think that the person they are seeing and laughing with is not me. So this leads to the idea of getting into the feet of others. How do they construct who am I. Do they also feel disconnected?

Exploring the other. That is what I would call my art. Taking off my contact lenses, relaxing my eyes, and seeing the wold through others eyes of what I’m used to. Looking more at the general and less at the specific. In a sense its like creating different impressionist and self owned realities. Inspired by Renoir for my self portrait,  getting others into my art, is for  instance  simply a representation of how God looks at us.

The use of mixed media: vegetable paper, printing, water color, tracing paper, water color pencils, water color markets, pens, acrylics, indian ink, that have  allowed me to blend the concepts of society, with the the desires to create a blurred idealization of post-modern humanity. This process took me from mixing red, blue and yellow to recognizing the difference between crimson, magenta, and cadmium red. It was like learning a new language. I could now express my ideas through color, texture, line, different medium, its like represent ideas, feelings and dimensions with a palette of colors by changing the technique. At the end it is the concept of taking what I see and embodying it to the canvas what has made possible to create the sense of the other.
