NATALIA ORDOÑEZ Ib Visual Arts Lincoln School Costa Rica

The Artist Statement
Natalia Ordoñez

For me, art is a way of expressing myself without the need of others to hear me. I decided to take IB art because even though it is a class with a grade, for me is a class that I actually enjoy and do my works because I am able to express how I fell and relax when doing it. I enjoy art as a hobby more than just. What I want to reflect in my art works all come back to the same topic, which is expressing my feelings not with words. The one of the hands of string and blue flowers want to expose the beauty that earth gives us. For my photography project I decided to concern on the accidents provoked by the wholes on the streets. I actually love taking pictures; in this art class I was able to learn the Eagle Eye, which helped me in my pictures. My other projects are mainly self-portraits in some ways. On my portraits the emphasis go to the eyes because they say that the frame of my face are my brows with my eyes. What I could consider an achievement of my work would be photography, that was my favorite work up to now. For taking a good photograph you need to consider the light exposure, balance of the picture, the rule of thirds, and the composition amongst all. I could also say that since the beginning of the year, my drawings have improved significantly, as we can observe on my first and last self-portraits. I have faced problems adding color to the painting because it looses its idea. I plan to practice how to blend the colors and to add color to the drawings. The movement that has influenced me mainly is the social art after the wars. They critic society and exposed it in art. I have experienced with media and techniques. I draw on tissue paper, did a canvas with strings, used Photoshop, mixed media and sculptures.
